China’s economic transformation is nothing short of spectacular and has changed the course of human history.
In just four decades, the most populous nation has become the second largest economy in the world. Even more significantly, this growth has opened up numerous opportunities for China and other countries globally.
Nestlé was one of the first multinational companies to grasp these opportunities, with the construction of a milk district and a dairy factory in the 1980s.
China is now the second-largest market of the Nestlé Group. Nestlé China employs about 50,000 people and operates 33 factories. Just about every product category we have elsewhere in the world is also manufactured and sold in China.
In addition, we serve the diverse and ever-changing needs of Chinese consumers through popular local brands like Totole, Hsu Fu Chi and Yinlu.
Nestlé is very optimistic about the future prospects of the Chinese market. We have strengthened our business by investing in a diverse industrial set-up, including training and technical assistance to farmers, research and development, manufacturing and food safety.
Sustainable growth has been a common challenge for both the public and private sector around the world. We welcome China’s development model driven by innovation, coordination, eco-friendly development, openness and sharing to bring about the continued prosperity of its 1.4 billion population.
A highlight is that in response to the global challenge of plastics, we are committed to make all our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025.
Our efforts in bringing our purpose to life will contribute to China’s sustainable development.
