We value our long-term partnership with the China Development Forum, and I
found this year’s Forum to be particularly impactful.
It speaks to global leaders who are committed to identifying genuine
opportunities for greater cooperation between China and the world, but also
across several important dimensions – business and society, incumbents and
newcomers, and humanity and technology.
The relentlessness of change along so many dimensions has created uncertainty
– but also opportunities for organizations of all kinds to play new roles and
carve out new competitive spaces. We believe the key to success in the decade ahead hinges on learning not just
how to adapt to these changes but how to tap into the opportunity as well.
Within this leadership agenda, a key topic we’re engaging on with the CDF and
throughout China is how the digital era is revolutionizing business, requiring a
new logic of competition.A decade ago, only one of the top ten global firms by market capitalization
was a technology company; today, seven companies dominate the list.
China is an established leader in the digital economy, with half of the
world’s most valuable Internet-based companies. As rapid digitalization
continues in China and beyond, we’ve observed that the successful leaders
driving digital transformation are focused on accelerating the rate of learning,
the growing importance of ecosystems, and the challenges involved in adapting
traditional organizations in a digital world.
Winning the present is certainly challenging enough, but we believe the more
critical task of leadership is winning the future. We invite all business
leaders who aim to win the '20s to join the conversation. The world is ripe with
opportunity if we can work together!
